Post one, very excited. Time to crack down and get some layout changes underway. :)

LJ's DDOS attacks are getting retarded. I'll be slowly shifting my ass over to Dreamwidth. I'll be sticking around this blog only for the communities I actively participate in.

Comment if you are on dreamwidth, so we can be frans. ♥

Advent "Sockins", Day One.
Jelly Belly "Smoothie" jellybeans.

Took some photos of the kids, will follow up with a protected post. I've decided to keep posted kid photos somewhat private.

Feeling rather melancholy. I will try to keep posting on a semi-regular basis, though. I've been slacking.

1. A fire starts, you can grab three things from around you, what do you grab?
Hard drive (photos), Mom's photo albums, the IMPORTANT CUBBY (stores our ID cards, papers, mementos).

2. If you were attacked by teleporting zombies, what’s the nearest object to you that could be used as a weapon and how?
Uhh.. I can fill a sock with nail polish & knitting needles and swing it at them? Yes, that is what I would do. Totally prepared.

3. What is your phone’s current wallpaper/screensaver?
Edmonton Eskimo logo. Greg changes it on me and I usually leave it up.

4. If you could wake up to one thing tomorrow, what would it be?
I am happy with my husband and beautiful daughters. If I had to pick something daft, I'd go with .. nine 20L sterilite containers full of alpaca wool and sock yarn.

5. Who was the last drunk message you sent to and what did it say?
I can't remember the last time I got drunk. I got tipsy at the wedding (shots with my dad and the wedding party), but I left my cell phone in the car.

6. What’s your opinion of marmite?
Never tried, I might if I had the chance.

7. How did the last conversation you had with an inanimate object go?
Quite well. Trying to reason with Greg is like trying to reason with a brick wall. jk.

8. When was your favourite birthday and why?
My first birthday with my family in my home. I didn't get much, but it was an amazing feeling. ♥

9. If you had to bathe in a tub full of one of the following, which would you choose and why:
ice, frogspawn, baked beans, cooking oil, cow poo, puppies.
Frog spawn, in tadpole stage. I imagine it would feel like bathing in tiny jelly balls. I would stick mint in my nose, in case they smell.

10. What’s the nearest item to you that is upside down?
I have some teal nail polish on its side, if that counts?

11. How aggressive are you behind the wheel of a car on a scale of 1-10?
2. I am a pretty chill driver. lol.

12. If you had to be covered in flavoured syrup for an entire day, what flavour would it be and why?
Saskatoon berry. Or vanilla bean, because yum.

13. What keeps you awake?
Knitting, usually. I get really into it, it's almost scary. Ha.

14. Is there anyone from tumblr that you want to pick up and shake like a snowglobe?
I don't tumbl as often as I should.

15. What was the last thing you made?
Two advent mittens & am in the process of finishing a pair of socks.

18. When was the last time you told someone you love them?
A few minutes ago.

Greg, then the kids.

I have never been able to.

23. What was the last silly thing you did?
Tickle fight with Greg and kids.

25. Look around, what is the next person/animal you see, doing?
Kids, sharing some christmas chocolates.

9 She Wants Revenge – I Don't Want To Fall In Love
10 Skold vs. KMFDM – Antigeist

30. Where’s the furthest from home you’ve ever been, how did you feel about it?
When I moved to Edmonton, it was incredibly lonely, until I got a phone call from an aunt.
I thought she had called just to say hello. To tell you how excited I was would have been an understatement. The let-down when she told me she accidentally dialed my number & she meant to call one of her friends? I cried when I hung up the phone. After that, I just stopped giving a fuck about "home" & made life comfortable in Edmonton. It was nice while it lasted. I would not mind moving back there someday.

31. What’s the one thing you’re looking forward to most right now?
Knitting christmas gifts.

32. Last movie you saw? How was it?
I had a 4 hour Grey's marathon last night. It was great. Before that, I watched Wolverine with my sisters, kids, boyfriends, etc. It was delicious because Hugh Jackman stars in it.

Hands. Ears. Eye. Fingernails. Uh, spleen.

37. When was the last time you laughed so hard that your stomach hurts and why?
When my sisters came to visit. Crazy ladies. ♥

Small things make me happy.

I'm probably going to update LJ whenever anything new comes in with my new last name. Heh.
av_0: (mishabw)
Not this time.

My sisters finally left today. And by "finally", I mean they missed their ride this weekend and have been patiently waiting and planning a way to get home since this weekend.

My mind is still whirling with the past 3 weeks' events. It's be amazing, and occasionally bittersweet. I will update when I feel inspired. A funny story, some ridiculous quotes, sentimental recollections.

In the meantime, here are some photos detailing a few events from the past few weeks.

There haven't been as many library visits for the girls, due to all of the events and visiting and tomfoolery. Their last library visit was on a chilly autumn morning. I feel awful because it's now quite snowy and cold outside. Library visit tonight.

Greg had a skin tag that decided to go rogue. It was removed and biopsied. He has a cute little scar in it's place.

Close up of infection, because you're into things like that. )

My dad arrived on the Monday before the wedding. He had fun with the girls, carving pumpkins and telling stories.

Melodie, M-jay & Melissa arrived on Wednesday.

Megan, Martin, Tasha & Brandon arrived on Thursday. My house was jam-packed, so much that my dad slept at my uncle Shawns, Greg and I got the floor in the living room & Meg/Mart/Tash/baby got the floor in the kids' rooms. Yay for extra beds.

With our wedding money, we got a new TV! 46 inch LCD.

Displaying our good looking selves, as per usual. Haw.

I joined a knitting club. Our first meeting was on Saturday. I dragged Megan along with me & she sat there, patiently reading, while I frogged my hat & started randomly knitting 2x2 ribbing. We discussed a knit-a-long & decided on the Lotus Bag from the first Stitch n' Bitch knitting book.

First snowfall started Saturday evening & lasted well into Sunday evening. It was gorgeous & got us in the mood to decorate.

Sexy man-tum.

We got married.

I have not written any letters this month. I will be working on all replies in November. Even if I've owed you a letter for a while & you've given up on my stupid ass, you will be getting a letter.

In that respect, my beautiful friend Miranda [ profile] emeralddreamz is on the hunt for a few good penpals. I have some absolutely wonderful penpals, I thought one of you fantastic ladies on my f-list would be interested in writing to her. She lives in the US, for anyone possibly concerned about postage.

2011 Christmas Cards

Please comment if you want a card from us. I am aiming to send them all in the third week of November. If I do not have your address, I will message you. Since this post is public, I urge you not to post your address, unless of course you just don't give an arse.

I have no reason NOT to send cards. I have 6 books of stamps that we were going to use for the wedding invitations, and ended up hand-delivering all of them. I have stamps to go around.

We are getting married in 3 days. My dad arrived last night. I was vibrating with excitement that entire day & could not sleep after I had gotten off work at 9:30. His friend Tony drove him from Île-à-la-Crosse to my front door. He spent the night & the girls gave him breakfast in bed (well, tried to. he wandered in the kitchen). They used a mickey mouse plate for his toast and sunny side up eggs and chose a heart mug for his coffee.

The twins are arriving tomorrow. Not sure when Megan & her family are coming, but [ profile] melodierae & her family are arriving tomorrow. I cannot wait. It's been 11 years since my sisters and I have been in the same home with my dad. I will cry, I know it.

Wedding planning is coming along.

Minor piss-offs: Drinking is frowned upon.
I am 25.

Going to the bar in my formal wear, since alcohol won't be at the venue.
I might hid a flask in my garter. lol jk.
av_0: (carry on sn)
If you post on a regular basis (read: more than once every few weeks or months), absolutely no need to worry about 'making the cut'. Just clearing out inactive journals.

Only posting about it because I haven't posted in a few days and I thought this would count. Ha.

Pic post tomorrow, after the football game & Kevin's going away party.

Carry on.
av_0: (mishafandom)

Halloween at our home is always a ridiculously festive time. And by festive, I mean 'Amber doing all the things while Greg grudgingly goes along with it & puts up decorations when Amber can't reach certain heights'.

The kids love it, I love it, Greg probably loves it (under that nonchalant IDGAF exterior). I would take better photos of our handiwork, but we are only getting started. And I didn't feel like creeping around the front of the house taking pictures with obnoxiously bright flash going off.

I pulled this jack-o-lantern candle out of storage a few days ago. It's deliciously awful. I'm not going to light it just for that reason. Conversation pieces. We're lighting the candles beside it. Making the living room smell like pumpkin pie spice? Yes, please.

Wedding shoes! I am wearing them around the house so I'm a little more graceful than a seizing primate on the big day. So far, so good. I am as ungirly as they come, in some aspects. I've never gotten my nails done, I've only been to a salon for a haircut (the last time I got it professionally colored, the lady fucked it right up), I don't go tanning, I rarely buy myself new shoes (unless I need them for work).

Even with wedding shoes, I had a hell of a time finding them. I have wide feet, very similar to a duck (minus the webbing, of course). I am convinced it's a result of growing up in the bush and running around without socks. Either way, my feet are crazy & I am slightly self conscious.

(but not self conscious enough to stop posting photos).

Sweeping the floor in heels, like a boss.

The girls like to be read to, and Crystal's coming along in her reading skills. I am glad to be raising little readers. Greg gripes when we go to the library, at least there are computers there to pacify him.

Some trashy books for me. Nothing too thoughtful, just something to read in between Math lessons.
av_0: (writing)
I very nearly left the 'l' out of 'public' in the title, and promptly laughed when I noticed. It's because I am 12, obviously.

When I post introductory paragraphs for new readers, I tend to feel awkward and self-congratulatory at the same time. It's an odd mix. I usually end up editing the shit out of the paragraph to make myself look more interesting than I actually am. The end result ends up being a bullet list of completely random shit that most people don't even know IRL.

Here's an example. I posted this to a penpal community back in May. When I started the entry, I fully intended on posting one or two friendly and engaging paragraphs to catch the attention of prospective penpals. I had one reply, and I think that was because other people were put off by the random off-the-wall crap I ended up spouting.

Occupation: Supervisor/keyholder in general retail. Knitter-on-commission, Harried mother, Dreadlock starter/maintenance person.
Language: English, Cree, HTML, Pig Latin, Very Bad French, Sarcasm & all of the bad words in at least 6 different (legit) languages.
Religious View: Non-practicing roman catholic. Overall agnostic.
Orientation: Straight, sometimes a little bendy.
    Relationship Status: Committed.
Tattoos/Piercings: Three tattoos (with a large piece in the works), Side-labret (pierced since Dec 2006, now I only wear jewelry in it if I feel fat and sassy), stretched earlobes (1/2 inch). May as well mention my 2 year old set of dreadlocks, since they're considered a semi-permanent body modification.

    About Me:
  • I took some business management courses, dropped out for personal and financial reasons. Going back to school this fall, taking baby steps to become a midwife.
  • The store I works for supports tattoo acceptance in the workplace, so long as they aren't shoddy or offensive. It is fantastic. I also have dreadlocks that occasionally change between pink, blue and purple. The powers that be have not given the side-eye yet, the positive feedback is encouraging.
  • For years, I had the blackest thumb bordering on the edge of herbicide. I am proud to announce this is my second year dabbling in gardening (and not killing shit!).
  • My children love kipper and Barney. If I'm not puttering in the kitchen, I usually want to throw socks at the television. I do not mind the cartoons I grew up on, though. I could watch those for at least 30 minutes. Other children's TV programs these days are ridiculous and offensive *waves cane*
  • If you haven't deduced by now, I have children. Two, in fact! Little sassy ladies we've dubbed "Crystal" and "Emily", mainly because they abhor nicknames. They are 5 (turning 6 next month) and 4. I love kids, but this is it for me. Babies are cute, but I've finished with the leaky boobs & moody hagfish stage.
  • I've had penpals since I was 11. My first penpal was a girl from Japan & we exchanged magazine and newspaper clippings about the backstreet boys (I was a rabid fan).
  • I practice yoga every morning. My living room is fairly small, so I have to get up before the kids do. I made the mistake of doing it while they were awake & I ended up fighting for space because they wanted to stretch and do the ADVANCED MOVES because they are small and bendy and I am old and not-bendy.
  • I am native american. I'm well-versed on my culture and history, so I'm more than open to sharing any information. My mom was cree (past tense because she passed away 11 years ago) & my dad is Métis.
  • The boyfriend has Type 1 diabeetus. He has to inject himself multiple times per day & moniter his blood-glucose levels. We cook like champs, and I'm always open to swapping low-carb healthy recipes.

Since that post, I've combed out my dreadlocks.

And we've gotten engaged.

Life is great & we're enjoying every step of the way. I'm long overdue for a crafty autumn photo post. Doing that later this week.

I require this wedding ring.
